My first orchestral experience was with the National Children’s Orchestra, which was slightly overwhelming at 11 years of age. By the time I had arrived at music college I was lucky enough to have had a lot of orchestral experience, ranging from the school orchestra to several years with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.

I was surprised to be accepted in my first audition in 2001, being only 13 years of age. It was a momentous year, which culminated in a big celebration in honour of Jill White’s resignation as Director of the NYO. Sometimes I can hardly believe that my first performance at the Royal Albert Hall was almost sold out, with a performance of Mahler’s Eighth Symphony conducted by Sir Simon Rattle.

I learnt a great deal whilst I was a member of NYO, with great thanks to all the teachers I met, Sioned Williams, Susan Drake, Alison Martin, Imogen Barford, Bryn Lewis and Charlotte Seale. I performed fantastic pieces, such as Daphins et Chloe (Ravel), Eine Alpinesinfonie (Strauss), The Planets (Holst), and the unforgettable premiere of Orchestra on Parade by Paul Patterson.

The orchestra is very privileged to work with phenomenal conductors, and my years were graced in meeting and working with Tadaaki Otaka, Mairn Alsop, Yan Pascal Tortelier, Sir Colin Davies and Sir Simon Rattle to name a few.

Since graciously retiring (due to old age!) from this prestigious youth orchestra, I have continued my orchestral experiences with the following orchestras: RWCMD Symphony Orchestra, CCSO, Symphonica Tywi and Sinfonia Cymru. I have also appeared as a soloist in the Debussy Danses with RWCMD String Ensemble, as well as performing the first movement of the Ginastera Harp Concerto with the Cardiff Philharmonic Society in the final of Texaco Young Musician of Wales, 2007.

I began teaching the harp privately in 2004 without any experience or qualifications and never realized how much I would enjoy it. I have taught a range of standards from complete beginners to grade 8 ABRSM and feel a great sense of accomplishment in the development of my students.

I have now completed a module in teaching at RWCMD, and feel that all my experience thus far has enriched my development as a musician and teacher. Although each student works at their own pace, I feel that they are all constantly improving and developing. Here are some of their recent successes:

• Finalist in the Blue Ribbon under 16 in the Eisteddfod Genedlaethol
• Highest mark in ABRSM exams in the region
• Second prize in the Harp Competition years 7-9 in Eisteddfod yr Urdd
• Third prize in the Harp Competition under 16 in the Eisteddfod Genedlaethol
• Member of the National Children’s Orchestra

I hope to continue teaching throughout my life, as I find it extremely rewarding and inspiring.

Unfortunately, I currently do not have any spaces for regular teaching, but please feel free to contact me to enquire of other recommended harp teachers or temporary lessons in preparation for an exam or competition. I also teach starter lessons in Telynau Vining, Rowlands Music in Cardiff, which can be booked through the shop.

Having been shadowing my mum from as young as 12 years old, I now have a wealth of experience of performing at events. I have performed in an array of venues from the Celtic Manor Hotel to the Royal Gallery in the Palace of Westminster; for small charities, large weddings, Rhodri Morgan the First Minister of Wales and Prince Charles.

I can provide harp background music for a multitude of events, from half an hour of pre-conference entertainment to full day wedding packages. Each event has it’s own needs, and we can work together to ensure that your event is supplied with exactly the entertainment you require.
